Marketing, sales and service - we keep an eye on all areas. Because only then can we succeed in perfectly accompanying the customer journey for an unsurpassable customer experience at all touchpoints. In order to achieve the best possible results for our customers, we brought Markus Sommer onto the konzepthaus team around two years ago - our current Head of Web Strategy, expert for marketing performance channels and SEO specialist.

What does your work around web strategy involve?

Markus: "Web strategy means more than just using smoothly functioning software or building a new website. Web strategy means developing a holistic concept for customer engagement and a company's digital strategy. Especially when we look at the big picture, we can generate added value and make a significant contribution to the digital growth of our customers.

Understanding requests and goals correctly is fundamental to this. Then we take a closer look at the overall process. An example? A customer wants to generate more leads online. On this basis, we go into a conception workshop and examine the associated processes: What is already in place that generates leads, such as a website? Is it designed to generate inquiries? How do you make the desired leads aware of the site? This is where the classic performance marketing channels such as Google, Bing or Facebook come into play. Search engine optimization or ad placement can also play a role. We develop hypotheses as to how the desired requirements can be achieved.

Then it's time to concretize and assign individual tasks to employees. This is where my work turns into project management: I distribute tickets, evaluate reports, test workflows and stay in close contact with customers.

We then analyze the planned web strategy based on data that we were able to collect via tracking: What is happening on the website now? Does this match our original objective? Do we need to make any optimizations? How do we design further support?

Because in the end, it's all about implementing a project that improves our customers' web strategy. And that we at konzepthaus are satisfied with."

What does the perfect website look like?

Markus: "There is no one-size-fits-all solution for every product. First of all, you have to ask yourself the right questions and carry out a target group analysis: Who is the target group that will use this website and for what? How do they move around the web?, What do they need to make a decision? How can trust be created? ...

It is precisely our strength that we develop individual solutions for each individual case and approach projects holistically. This results in the perfect website for the respective user."

When and how did your enthusiasm for IT begin?

Markus: "I was fascinated by computers and the technology behind them very early on. When I was around 12 years old, I mainly played on my parents' PC. It wasn't until 1996 with the Internet that things really took off for me: How do these pages actually come about, how do you program - I wanted to get to the bottom of these questions and got deeper and deeper into web development. I built my first websites and had a business license at the age of 18. Above all, curiosity and very different jobs allowed me to gain more and more experience. I also found interfaces interesting. So I decided to study business informatics. And I quickly realized that standard solutions are often not the first choice when it comes to making a web strategy really successful. That's why, after my first few years working in an online marketing agency, I decided to set up a boutique agency for online marketing. This allowed me to offer individual advice and support as well as tailor-made solutions."

You switched from self-employment to a permanent position: What is your experience of working in the konzepthaus team?

Markus: "The team spirit and the atmosphere are great. Very fair and open. I really appreciate that, as well as the exchange of ideas. And I think many others feel the same, because the turnover is very low. To be honest, the difference between self-employment and a permanent position here is not that big, because I still work in an extremely self-determined and flexible way."

You also look at konzepthaus as an independent entrepreneur: where does konzepthaus stillhave more potential?

Markus: "We can continue to improve our internal processes and define some things more clearly. We are working on this in strategy meetings. But you have to see how much konzepthaus has grown. Of course, there is still a lot of development work to be done."

Just like any complex project, a sophisticated web strategy only works if all areas are interlinked. Markus therefore works closely with the other departments at konzepthaus Web Solutions GmbH.
